Fundraiser Letter 2010

Dear Friend,

I'm writing to extend my immense gratitude for your support of Anabella Lenzu/ DanceDrama for the past four years. With your contribution this year, we were able to perform in 18 shows in 12 different venues in New York & Connecticut, as well as finance the World Premier of "The Corral" in October at the Merce Cunningham Studios, after 9 months in the creative rehearsal process. Amidst all of that, I managed to teach over 500 classes this year at Mark Morris, Peridance Center, Sarah Lawrence College and Dance New Amsterdam.

In July of 2006, my dream was to form a company that strives to create a unique dance language that opens a dialogue about: creativity, memory, fantasy, reality and social awareness within a global community. By expanding and combining the vocabulary of dance and theater, DanceDrama reveals and examines our emotional histories which transcend over all socio-political and cultural views.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you,

we were able to accomplish the following this year:

    * Performed the World Premier of The Corral in October at the Merce Cunningham Studios, with photographic projections by Todd Carroll, special guest Debra Zalkind and Light Designer Stephen Petrilli.

    * Performed 18 shows in 12 different venues in New York & Connecticut, including Dance New Amsterdam, University Settlement, CRS, JCC among others.

    * Performed a lecture/demonstration of The Corral for a group of professors and students from Randolph College on their annual trip to New York.

    * Invited as a Guest Choreographer for the Argentine dance company L'Atelier Ballet Contemporaneo, directed by Pamela Lenzu.

    * Invited to be Guest Choreographer for the Teen Summer Intensive Ballet program at Peridance Center, New York City.

    *  Celebrated the 15th  Anniversary of L'Atelier Centro Creativo de Danza in Bahia Blanca, Argentina (Anabella Lenzu: Founder, Director & Instructor). From 1994 - present,  promoting dance as an expression of art, integrating the physical, aesthetic and creative aspects in dance.

    * Selected to perform in the "Artists for Peace" program at the Crystal Theater, Norwalk, CT & at The Jewish Community Center.

    * Participated in continuing educational workshops specializing in Butoh.

    * Produced and organized workshops for international artists visiting New York:   Flamenco Workshop (Pamela Lenzu, instructor) & Professional Stage Makeup Workshop (Graciela Nobile, instructor).

    * Became member of the Actor's Theater Guild, in association with "The Little Church Around the Corner"

For our efforts, Anabella Lenzu/DanceDrama is pleased to have been awarded a generous grant from the Edwards Foundation Arts Fund.

Because of the success of these programs and productions, we plan to expand in the upcoming 2010 season. Some of the creative projects include:

    * Participating in The Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) 2010 Conference at City Center New York with performances and publicity.

    * Producing and performing in the third annual Ciao Italy Performing Arts Festival, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

    * Organizing the second annual Embrace Argentina tour: an intensive Tango travel experience to Argentina in April 2010.

    * Establishing weekly company classes to strengthen and explore the DanceDrama style, in addition to rehearsals for upcoming performances.

  *  A re-staging of the full-length show Italiani d'Argentina, about immigration, departure, and return told through a mixture of Argentinean and Italian folk as well as modern dance. Originally premiered in Italy, 2003.

    * A new full-length solo show called "Lime & Sand". It is an intimate dance-theater piece about one woman searching for her identity. Photo projections by Todd Carroll will be part of the collaboration, which will premier in Winter 2010/2011.

As an independent choreographer with a young company, it is a challenging and expensive venture to explore new choreographic works and perform them in New York City, and even more difficult to do so abroad. As governmental aid diminishes, we must rely more and more on you, our valued patrons.

I am asking you for your donation to help

Anabella Lenzu / DanceDrama to become a major emerging dance company in New York. The support you give is essential for the growth of the company. Without your support: artists, their families, friends, and audiences... we would cease to exist and become one of themany casualties of art this year.

The future of our company lies with you:

$2500 will cover rehearsal expenses for an entire show

$1000 pays for a light designer for 1 show

$500 pays for Full week of studio rental

$250 pays for Performance fee for collaborator

$100 pays for Costume for one dancer

$50 operating expenses

$20 pays for One hour of rehearsal

A sincere and heartfelt thanks for your support of our ongoing work.

Your friendship and investment inspire us

onward to new creative heights!

There are many ways to help us strengthen our impact

on New York City and continueour work abroad.
